a story for all ages!

why do i love this time of year?
shopping
big, elaborate meals with all of the fixings
holiday drinks and the "red cup" at starbucks
christmas music
presents

and most importantly...

holiday windows at marshall field's (not macy's)!

When I was younger, my mother would take my sister and I downtown to view the windows before seeing The Nutcracker. It's sad to know that for every year after this one, children across Chicagoland will associate the holidays with Macy's (yuck, barf, puke) rather than Marshall Field's. The windows, The Walnut Room, the Great Tree...they will no longer be our traditions but New York's traditions. I'll take Home Alone (set in suburban Chicago) over Miracle on 34th Street anyday.

This year's theme was "Cinderella." How ironic for Marshall Field's (not Macy's) to choose a story about the underdog overcoming her troubles. If only they followed the story more to heart...
